William U. Packer, Jr.
Buxton- William U. Packer, Jr. died at home Saturday, November 12, 2016, surrounded by the family and friends her cherished. Billy, as he was best known, was the son of the late William and Bernice Packer of California. His brother Raymond Langlois also preceded Billy in death.
Billy served his country honorably in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War Era. After his military services, Billy began a long and successful career as a long-distance truck driver. His work eventually brought him to the Outer Banks where he met the love of his life Gail. He never left and the couple went on to raise their family in Buxton. Billy will be remembered by those who knew him as a simple, fun-loving, family man.
Surviving Billy Packer is his wife of 36 years, Gail Packer of the Buxton residence; two daughters, Alicia Packer and partner Thomas Corpening of Avon, NC, and Lindsey Packer and partner Will Smith of Frisco, NC; two grandchildren, Deklan and Adele Corpening also of Avon; one brother, David Packer of Bull Head, Arizona; two sisters, Darlene Bishop of Mesa, AZ, and Nancy Anthony-Cheney of San Bernardino, CA, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family members and close friends.
The family will hold a memorial service Wednesday November 16, 2016 at 1 pm at Lighthouse Assembly of God Church in Buxton. Pastor David Waterfield will officiate. Memorial tributes in Billy’s memory are gratefully welcomed at the Hatteras Island Cancer Foundation and or Interfaith Community Outreach (ICO).
