William Douglas Dashiell
Kill Devil Hills-William Douglas Dashiell, 56, died unexpectedly at his home New Year’s Eve. Doug was born May 30, 1954. He was the son of the late Ruth Ann and E. Bales Dashiell Sr. of Portsmouth, Virginia. Doug was a resident of Kill Devil Hills since the 1970’s, and worked in the construction business for most of his life. He was a master carpenter, and recently enjoyed his employment with the Jolly Roger Restaurant. Doug retired after 20 years as Captain from the Collington Volunteer Fire Department which he was one of the original members and also served as an officer of its Board of Directors. Doug was an avid diver, fisherman, underwater photographer and surfer. He deeply enjoyed his life on the Outer Banks, and took pride in being a good and helpful neighbor and friend to everyone he knew.
Doug was the brother of Earl B. Dashiell Jr. and wife Sandie of Poquoson, Virginia, and Ronald Lee Dashiell Sr. and wife Linda of Isle of Wight County, Carrollton, Virginia. He also is survived by many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family members as well as numerous chershed friends and neighbors including childhood buddies Skip Haynes, Marc Defelice, Rick Scott, and Marion Gee.
Plans for a memorial service near Helga Street are pending and will be announced at a later date. Condolences may be expressed via the on-line register at www.gallopfuneralservices.com. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that any memorial donations be made to the Collington Volunteer Fire Department.
