  1. I’m so saddened by the loss of my brother and blessings to all the family. I loved him so very much, even though we didn’t get to spend much time together. May the Lord be with you all in this saddest of times, but know that Walter is rejoicing in the Lords presence! We will see you soon…

  2. So sorry to hear about Walter’s passing. I worked with him at Outer Banks Contractors. He was a great guy. Prayers to all the family.

  3. Walter Gray was a fine man and a real asset on the jobsite. My wife Sharon and I offer our prayers and deep condolences to his family. He’s checking grade on those “streets of gold” now.

  4. Walter was part of our Gantt Family for many years, I only had the pleasure of meeting him personally a few times. For me, I liked him from the first smile and hello he gave. He was a tremendous husband to Karen Gene. We will truly miss him but know he is dancing in heaven with all the members of our family that went before….a truly GREAT guy. God Bless!

  5. Walter Gray was an outstanding husband, father, and man. My condolences go to his family and loved ones. I pray The Lord provide them with strength and comfort. Love y’all.

    Very Respectfully

    Christopher G. Hernandez

Walter Gray

September 4, 2023

Walter Gray, 68 years old, of Kitty Hawk went to be with his Lord and Savior after a short battle with cancer. Walter was preceded in death by his parents, William Brinkley, and Mary Edwards Gray; and his sister, Susan Gray Baum.

Walter was born in Norfolk, VA on April 29, 1955, moved to Powells Point in his teens, and spent most of his adult life in Kitty Hawk. He truly enjoyed his job at the Town of Kill Devil Hills, especially the people that he worked with there. He loved spending time at the beach with his family, particularly at Oregon Inlet. Most importantly, Walter loved spending quality time with his wife, children, and grandchildren.

Walter is survived by his beloved wife of 39 years, Karen; his son, William Gray of Kitty Hawk; his daughters, Caroline Potter (Forrest) of Beaufort, SC and Jennifer Gray of Kitty Hawk; three grandchildren, Asher and Mason Gray of Kitty Hawk and Wesley Potter of Beaufort, SC; and a brother, Raymond Gray of Reidsville, NC.

A viewing will be held from 6-8 pm on Wednesday, September 6, 2023 at Gallop Funeral Chapel in Nags Head. The funeral will be held 11 am, Thursday, September 7, 2023 at Kitty Hawk Baptist Church with burial to follow at Austin Cemetery. Pastors Steve Siegrist and Larry Benson officiating.
