Walter D. Bell
Walter DeWayne Bell or “Wayne” as he was best known departed from this earthly existence June 23, 2026 in Elizabeth City, NC. Wayne was 81. He was born in Pennsylvania August 5, 1944- part of an extended family that included his mother, Grayce Bell, grandparents (now deceased), as well as numerous aunts, uncles, and other extended family members.
After graduation from Karns City High School in 1962, Wayne attended Robert Morris University in Pittsburgh. He later moved to Erie, Pennsylvania where he and his former wife, Jean Carlson welcomed a son, John Robert Bell-Jayne.
The family soon moved to Fairview, Pennsylvania. There Wayne became involved in the Fairview Athletic Association and announced football games at the high school for many years. He later moved to Pittsburgh where he formed his own company selling hydraulics.
In 2010 Wayne moved to North Carolina where he married Nancy Kay and became like a dad to Christopher Kay-Shelley and Kathy Kay Suydam-Rob. Wayne’s favorite past time was playing golf and enjoying his four grandchildren: Thomas and Sarah Suydam and Grayson and Maddox Kay.
In lieu of flowers the family kindly suggests memorial donations to the Shriners Children’s Hospital 1645 West 8th St. Erie, Pa 16505. Donations may also be made to your local Alzheimers Association. A memorial service will be held Tuesday, July 21, 2026 at 10 am at Powells Point Christian Church. Rev. Edward Mullin will officiate. Please share expressions of sympathy with Kay and the family via the online register at www.gallopfuneralservices.com.
