Victoria Ann Toms

Victoria Ann Toms, 57, of Kill Devil Hills, NC, passed away September 8, 2012 at her residence.  A native of Miami, FL, she was the daughter of Olive Herman and the late Harry Herman.

Victoria grew up in Hialeah, FL and began her dance training at a young age.  She was selected for and received a scholarship to the Miami Junior Ballet Theatre, where she performed for nine years, including lead roles in The Sleeping Beauty, Etudes and Walpurgis Night.  Ms. Toms began her professional career in 1973 as a featured dancer with the Florida Family Opera and member of The Lemon Twists.  The ensemble toured for five years, performing with many legendary entertainers, including Bob Hope and Tony Bennett.  In 1978 she moved to New York City and continued her training.  After operating dance studios in Miami, Victoria moved to the Outer Banks and founded Atlantic Dance in 1995.

In addition to her mother, Victoria is survived by her husband Sam Toms, brothers Robert Wilkerson and Richard Herman, and her nieces and nephews.  She will also be mourned by the hundreds of students whom she inspired and nurtured over her long career as a dance instructor.

A memorial service will take place Sunday September 30th, 2pm at The Elizabethan Gardens in Manteo, NC.
