Vannly “Van” Barnes

Grandy- Vannly Barnes or “Van” as he was best known, died in Virginia Beach, VA Sunday April 10, 2016.  Van was born November 7, 1947 and spent his childhood in Enfield, NC.  He was the son of the late Howard and Janie Barnes.

Van retired from the North Carolina Department of Corrections after 32 years of service. In recent years he enjoyed relaxing at home with family and attending Grandy Community Church where he was a faithful member.

Left to cherish Van’s memory is his devoted wife of 48 years, Priscilla Barnes of the Grandy residence; one daughter, Debbie Melson of Powells Point; one son, Garrie Barnes also of Grandy; five grandchildren, David, Brandon, Jessica, Justin, and Melissa; eight great-grandchildren and a host of extended family members, friends, and his loving church family.

The family will hold a memorial service Sunday April 17, 2016 at 2 pm at Grandy Community Church in Grandy, NC. The Reverend Steven King will officiate.
