Tony Darnell Sawyer

October 28, 2021

Tony Darnell Sawyer, 59, of Wanchese, died October 28, 2021 at The Tyrrell House in Columbia, NC after a long and courageous battle with cancer. He was born in Wanchese April 4, 1962, to the late Pluman Elmer and Lovie Ellen Beasley Sawyer. Tony was also preceded in death by three brothers and six sisters.

Tony was a lifelong resident of Dare County, a graduate of Manteo High School, and lived the last years of his life in the Wanchese house he grew up in. He was a wonderful caretaker to his mother and a loving father to his sons of whom he was so proud. He was a good friend and neighbor to many and will be fondly remembered as a kind and caring man, slow to anger, quick with a smile, and always ready to help when someone was in need.

Tony is survived by his sons, Adam Lee Allred of Elizabeth City and Andrew Cole Sawyer of Southern Shores; loving sister, Linda Fay Sawyer McPherson and her husband, Wille J. McPherson of Manteo; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will hold a private memorial celebration. Expressions of sympathy and comfort are welcome, via the on-line register at www.gallopfuneralservices.com. Gallop Funeral Services, Inc was entrusted with arrangements.
