Thomas Francis Smigiel

Rodanthe- Thomas Francis Smigiel, age 81, of Rodanthe, NC, formerly of Richmond, VA, died on Monday, April 11, 2016 in Nags Head, NC.  He was born in Brooklyn, NY on October 6, 1934 to the late Thomas Martin and Mary Bubeck Smigiel.

Tom was an electrician for many years at  Defense Supply Center Richmond, and retired from civil service in September 1994.  After Tom retired, he followed his dream of living on the OBX full-time, where he made many wonderful friends who became his second family.  Tom lived the life he wanted, and he lived it well.

Tom was preceded in death by his wife, Sandra Valenta Smigiel, and his sister Jean S. Steinninger.

Tom is survived by his children, Karen S. Harris (Douglas) of Colonial Heights, VA, Kenneth M. Smigiel (Teresa) of Sutherland VA, and Kerri S. Gideons (Adam) of Fort Riley KS, as well as seven grandchildren, Thomas Smigiel, Matthew Harris (Jordan), Lynnsie S. Peet (Brandon), Austin Harris, Erika Hess, Tye Gideons, Ella Gideons, and one great-granddaughter, Dani Peet, his sister, Janet Crosley of Homosassa Springs, FL, three nieces and one nephew.

A memorial service will be held Friday, April 15, 2016, 1pm, at Gallop Funeral Services, Inc.  6917 S. Croatan Hwy, Nags Head, NC, 27959.
