  1. Great soul with a good heart! He graciously picked up our children in our K.I.D.S. (Kids insulin dependent support) Group and drove them in his limo for their sugar free Sunday from Big Al’s soda shop. I will never forget how wonderful he was!

  2. I had the privilege of knowing Robert for 30 years. He was the most reliable and professional chauffeur on the obx. I also had the privilege of working with him on a daily basis at Napa in Manteo. I was the part technician at Dare CountyPublicWorks. We also met with other co workers from Napa to enjoy conversations and drinks at La Fogata in Nags head.I have enjoyed ever moment that I could have with him. I will truly miss him and Cindy. God speed ahead dear dear friend. ❤️🙏

  3. There are so many good an fun memories of Robert..
I knew him my entire life!! You will be missed my friend!

  4. Hey Lady…… Wonderful Words written. Robert was a great friend ….. so many fun times as Ettrick/Matoaca hooligans…. to OBX adults!!! Cindy & Robert headed to the Sand Bar, me to the Rocky’s! The vacations & concerts will be Great Memories forever.. and Cindyville❤️❤️🌞
Big Hugs to you & family💕🌻🌷🌼🌺

  5. I never met Robert’s family but I offer my condolences. I had seen Robert around the beach (Napa alot). But I met him at a Mexican restaurant in Winston Salem at a Billy Strings concert. After that I saw him everywhere and it was always a pleasure to see him. I will miss my friend in blue grass.

  6. My heart goes out to all mourning Robert. My brother Wayne introduced Robert to our family during the Outer Banks years, and everything said about him in the obituary was so true. He was immediately easy to talk with, and his warm, peaceful spirit came through from the get-go. You’re in my prayers.

  7. I was sad to hear about Robert passing. When I was working at Nags Head and going to my old stomping grounds Slammin Sammy’s, I’d always see him. We always had good conversations and he was just a great guy.

Sadly I left the OBX in 2009 and lost track of him. The OBX lost a true good one. Condolences to the family. He was one of a kind. RIP my friend.

Robert Lynwood Via

March 22, 2026

Robert Lynwood Via, 71, passed away on March 22, 2026. Born November 29, 1954, he was raised in Ettrick, Virginia, where he built his roots. He later spent over 30 years in the Outer Banks of North Carolina, where he called home. He was preceded in death by his wife, Cindy Via; his parents, Janice and James Via; and his sister, Becky Wailes.

After more than 20 years with Commonwealth Gas Company in Petersburg, Virginia, Robert moved to the Outer Banks, where he enjoyed a slower pace of life. He worked as a chauffeur, where he met so many great people and built lasting friendships.

Robert was a social, fun-loving, and positive man who never met a stranger. He had a deep love for music and could often be found enjoying live performances, something that brought him a great deal of happiness. He truly enjoyed being around people, sharing meals, and having good conversations where he developed many long-lasting bonds of friendship.

Robert was devoted to his family and especially to his wife, Cindy, who passed in 2022. She was the love of his life, and their bond was at the center of everything. Robert is survived by his son, Todd Burton (Jennifer Birchett); grandchildren, Justin, Hannah and Robert; his brothers, Michael Via (Carol) and Dewey Via (Tara); and his sister, Linda Jo Reed (Wesley). He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and extended family members.

A celebration of Robert’s life will be held at a future date. Details will be shared once arrangements are finalized. The family would like to thank everyone for their love, support and prayers. I was sad to hear about Robert passing. When I was working at Nags Head and going to my old stomping grounds Slammin Sammy's, I'd always see him. We always had good conversations and he was just a great guy. Sadly I left the OBX in 2009 and lost track of him. The OBX lost a true good one. Condolences to the family. He was one of a kind.
