Robert H. Winkelmann

Kill Devil Hills – Robert H. Winkelmann, 72, recently died in Nags Head, NC of natural causes.

Bob was born in St. Louis, Missouri in 1944 to the late Aloys and Audrey Winkelmann (nee Breidert) and was a retired U.S. Marshal.

Surviving is Bob’s wife of 39 years, Edith; her two sons, Michael Scherrer of St. Louis, MO, and Scott Scherrer of Kill Devil Hills; and his sister, Marianne Trybula and her family of Mesa, AZ.

Bob and Edith retired to the Outer Banks 18 years ago after assignments in many parts of the country. Bob enjoyed his retirement here taking up watch making and repair while Edith walked the beach and made sure the turtles made it safely into the ocean. He was a member at St. Andrew’s By-the Sea Episcopal Church.

A celebration of Bob’s life will be held at St. Andrew’s by-the-Sea, Nags Head, on Friday, August 11, at 11:00 AM.
