Richard Allen Hall

October 5, 2018

Kill Devil Hills – Richard Allen Hall or “Rick, The Sign Man” as many knew him, passed away unexpectedly of natural causes at his home October 5, 2018.  Rick was 61.  He was born in Olney, Maryland and raised in the Silver Spring, MD area.

Rick was artistic, musical, hardworking, and funny.  He completed an apprenticeship in sign making in California and eventually applied his training by opening his own sign making business. For many years, Rick owned and operated The Sign Man- designing and installing commercial and residential signs throughout the Outer Banks. Much of his work can still be seen today. Besides running his business, Rick loved surfing, playing guitar, fixing stuff, and enjoying his family. Rick will be remembered as a loving and wonderful father and husband even as he bravely battled health challenges over the past year.

Surviving the Sign Man is his wife Jane E. Hall of Kill Devil hills, NC; two sons Jake M. Hall of Vail, CO and Trevor B. Hall of Cary, NC; two daughters Marlene R. Hall also of Cary and Michelle S. Hall, of Kill Devil Hills; two brothers, David Hall of Tarpon Springs, FL, and Philip Hall of Largo, FL and numerous extended family members, in-laws, friends, and customers.

The family’s plans for a memorial service are pending at this time.  In lieu of flowers or food Rick’s family gratefully requests that memorial donations in Rick’s memory be made directly to Gallop Funeral Services, Inc. to offset his cremation expenses.

Condolences to the family may be expressed at www.gallopfuneralservices.com.  Gallop Funeral Services, Inc. was entrusted with arrangements.
