Philip Martin Fischer
Manteo- Philip Martin Fischer passed away on January 9, 2017 in Nags Head, NC. He was born on December 22, 1935 in Columbus, Ohio to the late Adolph and Emily Rowe Fischer. He spent most of his life in Newark, Ohio where he was the general manager of the Sharff’s Women’s Clothing Store chain and later the director of the Licking County Red Cross Chapter.
Philip retired in 1999 and moved to Roanoke Island, NC and his beloved Sunnyside. He spent twelve happy summers at Fishing Unlimited where renting boats was his favorite pastime.
Philip is survived by his wife of 33 years, Mary Ann McGonagle Fischer; a beautiful family of three daughters, Valerie Morgan(Ted), Susan Robison (Greg), and Sharon Lockhart (Sid); six grandchildren Cara Morgan-Osborne, Jason Morgan (Carleigh), Matthew and Derek Robison and Bobby and Chase Crowell; four great-grandchildren Morgan Osborne and Cohen Koon and Louis and Grant Morgan. He is also survived by his brother, John Fischer (Nancy) and JoAnn Fischer, the mother of his three daughters. He had many special nieces and nephews and a host of wonderful friends including Zane and Carole Wachtel of Newark, OH. He was preceded in death by his brother Robert Fischer and wife, JoAnn, and his sister Rita Fischer Truck and her husband, Jerry.
Philip will also be sorely missed by his faithful companion, Jazz. A memorial gathering in Philip’s memory will be held at a later date in Newark, OH. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St, Jude’s Children’s Hospital or to the Outer Banks SPCA PO Box 2477 Manteo, NC 27954.
