Peggy Louise Martin

January 22, 2018

Frisco – Peggy Louise (Gowen) Martin, age 90, passed away Monday, January 22, 2018 due to complications of the flu.

Peggy was born February 1, 1927 in Poplar Bluff, Missouri to Ira Lennis Gowen and Pearl Mae Jenkins Gowen. She married her true love, Wash Martin, on February 16, 1956.

Peggy loved music and she loved to dance. In her younger years she loved to jitterbug, do the Charleston, swing, and square dance, among others. In later years, she would start moving her feet anytime music played.

Peggy was hard-working and kind. She called the kitchen her “office,” and in her younger years was always whipping up excellent meals for her family. She loved and served her family well and prayed for her children. She defended her kids like a mama bear.

Her talents were many. She painted with oils and sewed many clothes for her kids. She was proud of her “Scotch blood” and her ability to stretch a dollar. She was industrious, cleaning houses on the weekends and putting her pay away for a “rainy day” or to help out one of her kids. She called it her “hidey-spot money.”

Peggy loved Jesus with all of her heart. And she loved wisdom. She encouraged her children to seek wisdom and to read one Proverb every day. Peggy was a shining example of the Proverbs 31 woman and she reflected the light of Jesus to those around her.

Peggy would look and find God‘s favor to her in things big and small. If a stranger opened the door for her or showed her respect she saw it as the favor of God. And she showed God’s grace to those around her, giving the best hugs to everyone, being loving and welcoming to those she knew and those she didn’t. Peggy knew how to make people feel special. But watch out! Her bear-hugs could break a rib!

In the days to come, her family will be left with a big void. Those left behind include her husband, Wash Martin, daughter Lynda Doggett, daughter Kelly (Joey) Brunson, son Douglas (Kimberly) Martin, son Wiley Martin, and daughter Eileen (David) Botello. Also, grandchildren, including LeAnn Kirkland, Bryan Clarke, Mary Krawchuck, Abe Thomas, Nikki Martin, Whitney Austin, Carley Martin, Evan Botello, Eric Botello, and Douglas Botello. Along with multiple great-grandchildren.

Peggy is now in the arms of Jesus and has joined her son, David “Bucky” Martin, on that beautiful shore. We anxiously await that time when we will join them there.

“For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.”  – Romans 8:38-39

A visitation will be held 6-8pm, Thursday, January 25 at the Lighthouse Assembly Family Life Center. The funeral will be 4pm, Friday, January 26 at the Lighthouse Assembly Family Life Center.  Burial will be private.
