Patty (Patricia) Price Hughes

Kitty Hawk – Patty Hughes passed Thursday, December 1, 2016 surrounded by her loving husband Skip, her daughters; Shannon Stainback (David) of Newport News, Virginia, Casey Byrum (Travis) of Kitty Hawk, “daughter”; Molly Kundis of Kitty Hawk, as well as her loving family and friends. Patty is survived by her loving grandchildren Trevor, Luke and Emily, her treasured kitties Max and Molly, her sisters Debbie Whiteman (Bobby) of Newport News, Virginia and Dee Dee Trotter (Mike) Williamsburg, Virginia, and many nieces and nephews.

Patty was born June 12, 1947 in Lawrence, Kansas, moved to Newport News at 16 and graduated Ferguson High School Class of 1965. She was a legal secretary for over 30 years before retiring.

Patty’s love for the beach was well known, but her favorite spot was Eckner Street Beach in Kitty Hawk.  She was a daily fixture since moving to Kitty Hawk full time 6 years ago, so much so that she made the lifeguards lunch daily from Memorial Weekend to Labor Day. Her second love was for the kitty rescue Feline Hope. She was active with many aspects of the no kill shelter, ranging from fund raising, donations, making kitty beds  and rice bags. Patty never met a stranger. When she met you she engaged you, told you what she thought and handed you a Patty Bag. Patty’s generous spirit is eternal and she leaves behind a legacy of kindness and service.

The family would like to thank Dare County Home Health and Hospice, AMU Unit at Outer Banks Hospital, and Dr. Walker and his staff at Leo Jenkins Cancer Center in Greenville, North Carolina. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations in Patty’s name be made to www.felinehope.org. A celebration of life will be scheduled at a later date.
