Patricia “Pat” Hagen

April 6, 2020

Patricia “Pat” Hagen was born on July 24, 1947 in Bethesda, Maryland.  She unexpectedly transitioned with the Lord in Kill Devils Hills, North Carolina on April 6, 2020 at the age of 72.

Pat was born an only child of two naval officers. As a child, Pat lived several years in Japan while her parents served in the Armed Forces. While living in Virginia, she attended T.C. Williams High School where she graduated with her diploma.  After graduation, she attended the University of Florida and later transferred to Old Dominion University.  Pat graduated from Old Dominion University with a bachelor’s degree in Health Policy.  After college, she started a career with the federal government.  She obtained employment with Federal Department of Health and Human Services. Pat sustained her career with the United States Government for 35 years.  As an administrator for the Department of Health and Human Services, she drafted regulations in early childhood programs, regulations for foster care programs, and regulated state health directors. Pat received numerous accommodations throughout her career. Pat was known for her ability to hold more than one job at a time.  She was also a Licensed Realtor and Investor.

After Pat retired from the Federal Department of Health and Human Services, she led a full life that consisted of hobbies and traveling the world.  Pat enjoyed rehabilitating and making homes fancy to resell in the housing market.  She also enjoyed playing tennis, swimming, water aerobics, walking her dog, and rumba. She spent a good deal of time working with students in the Foreign Student Exchange Program.  Pat had a good heart and loved people. She hosted many students attending colleges in Florida.

Pat and Walter met years ago in the 90’s and spent a great deal of time together.  They chose to engage in martial bliss in May of 2007. She and Walter were married for 13 years.  They had the pleasure of travelling and experiencing cultures around the world.  Pat and Walter both were a part of dog rescue. Anyone who knew Pat well, knew how much she loved her dogs, Mr. Scrump, Ms.Hazel, Ms. Sophia and Pico the cat. They were not just animals to Pat- they were family.

Pat is survived by her husband, Dr. Walter Barwick; stepdaughter, Mitzi Barwick; stepson, Scott Barwick; daughter-in-law, LaChonde Martin-Barwick; and two grandchildren, Matthew and Jeremiah Barwick.  She is also survived by a host of friends who she loved dearly.

-with love Walter
