Neil C. Bennett Sr.

May 29, 2016

Neil C. Bennett Sr. of Coinjock (born Sept 24, 1948) the son of late Arthur and Dorothy Bennett of Salem, New Jersey was called home to meet his lord and savior after a furious battle with cancer.  He was a humble man with a big heart that loved to tell stories about hunting, fishing, and what he called the good old days.  He was a man of honor, but loved a good joke.   He was a big guy, and a Marine of a very big war.  He would tell you stories of that war that would make your skin crawl.  You would never know it, and that is one thing that plagued Neil his whole life.  He dealt with untreated PTSD that no one recognized until the very last years of his life. Once he discovered the disease and understood how to beat it, he got a new lease on life.  With this new outlook of what war takes from you after the battle, he chose to embrace every minute with family and friends.

Left behind to cherish his memories: his wife Marcella Bennett of Coinjock, NC; a son Neil C. Bennett Jr. of Camden, NC with wife Martina;  three daughters Stacy Perkins of Fort Myers, Fl; Tina Mims of Aydlett, NC with husband Mark ; and Amanda Turner of Coinjock, NC; three sisters Lois, Sandra and Ruthie and their spouses, all of New Jersey.  There are ten grandchildren Patricia, Tony, Nick, Emma, Neil, Paeton, Nikki, Jackson, Olivia, Mark Jacob; and a host of loving nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at the Veterans Memorial Park at Coinjock, NC at on Saturday June 4th, 2016 at 12pm.  The local American Legion will be officiating the event.  In lieu of flowers we ask that memorial donations may be made to local VFW and American Legion Offices.

Condolences to the family may be expressed via the online register at www.gallopfuneralservices.com. Gallop Funeral Services, Inc. was entrusted with arrangements.
