Michael Harris Wold
Kill Devil Hills- Michael Harris Wold, known to many as “Rookie” passed away peacefully at his home in Kill Devil Hills embraced in the loving arms of his daughters, Meaghan and Lian and dear friend Lisa Coppedge, Monday May 4, 2009.
Born in Butte, Montana February 9, 1947 to Betty Warren, Michael grew up with his extended family in Seeley Lake, Montana in the home of Harris and Vera Wold.
He joined the Navy at 17 during which time he was well known for his musical talents, entertaining at the NCO clubs. After retiring as Chief petty officer at 37, Michael had distinguished careers with G.E., NASA, and eventually as owner of “Wold & Wold Trucking.”
Michael is survived by his mother Betty Carlson Thompson, brothers Steve and Don Carlson; sisters Darlene Kersnar and Lian Crabb; children Chris Gilbertson, Lian Gilbertson, and Meaghan Wold; grandchildren Anthony, Katherine, and Isabella; aunts Loyce Huber and Sally Wold, and uncle Ben Wold; many nieces, nephews, and extended family, and his dear friends here on the Outer Banks and at the Jolly Roger.
In his last years, Rookie took up golf and continued to share his passion for music, singing, karaoke, and playing Trivial Pursuit with his loyal group of friends at the Jolly Roger. He will forever be missed.
A gathering to celebrate Michael’s life will be held at the Jolly Roger in Kill Devil Hills on Saturday May 9, 2009 from 3 to 6 pm. Condolences may be sent to the family via the on-line register at www.gallopfuneralservices.com
