I met Mike when I was a young kid back in 1987-88 time frame. Before his bigger house off tulls creek, he had a small place next to the water near Currituck (i think) and he'd throw big parties that my parents would bring me to. Fast forward 10 or so years to when I got a job with NOAA when I turned 18. Mike would get me to drive him all over VA & NC looking for bench marks. He would tell me every bit of civil war history, architecture and plantation history, building types, you name it. We had many many other adventures while working for NOAA. Trips to Florida, SC, and Louisiana were some of the best times of my life and I shared them with Mike Horn driving him wherever he requested. He'd do anything for me and I felt the same. He was considered family. I miss those days with Mike. I still work for NOAA in the same office he retired from. He is still a legend as we talk about him in a positive way almost weekly. We always share stuff we learned from Mike with new folks and carry on his legacy. We reminisce about the good old days when Mike, Kyle, and Rick were with NOAA... it was all about the good times and that's part of his legacy, is making work enjoyable, eating a fresh tuna sandwich for lunch when you can, and enjoying a cold beverage after a long day in the field. I miss ole Mike Horn. Our thoughts are with the family, and Suzanne.
