Mavis Harris
A Time to be born:
Mavis Harris was born on August 26th 1938 to the late George and Rosa Mercer.
A Time to Learn and Work:
Mavis attended school in Currituck County, later, she would dedicate over 20 years of her life to working for The Currituck County School System.
A Time to Love:
At a young age, Mavis was united in Holy matrimony to the late James Ardell Sampson Sr. During this union, they were blessed with eleven children. Mavis lovingly devoted her Christian life to Weeping Mary Church of Christ Disciples of Christ.
A Time to Rest:
Mavis Harris was a dear friend to all who were blessed to know her. She was always willing to help those in need; she will be greatly missed by those lives that she touched. Mavis was preceded in death by her parents; George and Rosa Mercer, her husband; James Ardell Sampson, five of her children; Sarah Sampson, Robert Sampson, Charles Sampson, Johnnie Sampson, and Evyonne Ferebee. Lifelong treasures and memories will forever be in our hearts and deeply cherished by her children; James Sampson (Nadine) of Norfolk, VA, Rosa Sampson (Danny) of Elizabeth City, NC, Deborah Gallop (Luke) of Moyock, NC, Julius Sampson (Mamie) of Winston Salem, NC, Valerie Jones, of Moyock, NC and Roger Sampson (Alecia) of Winston Salem, NC. She also leaves her brother; George Mercer (Catherine) and one sister, Elizabeth Johnson, both of Moyock, NC, one god-daughter; Almecia Charity, 19 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, and one great-great grand and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A home going service will be held at Currituck County Middle School on December 24th at 1p.m. Interment will follow at the Sampson Family Cemetery in Moyock. Friends may greet the family at Currituck County Middle School following the burial.
