Maureen Cagiano
Maureen Cagiano, a long-time Southern Shores resident, died at home on Thursday, February 17, 2011. Maureen was 88 years old.
Maureen was born and raised on the Island of Holyhead in North Wales, United Kingdom where she met her husband, Anthony “Andy” Cagiano, an American GI who served during WWII in the U.S. Army Air Corps. Maureen emigrated to the United States with Andy, and the two settled in College Park, Maryland where Maureen earned her United States citizenship and as a multi-tasking homemaker, raised three sons in a warm and loving home.
Over the years Maureen enjoyed employment with several companies in many different capacities, but she valued her role as the backbone of her family most of all.
After retiring with her husband to the Outer Banks in 1980, Maureen expended her energies serving others. She volunteered her time with HOTLINE, the Baum Senior Center, the Dare County Library, and she was also one of the founders of the Southern Shores Volunteer Fire Department’s Rescue 12 Rehab.
Left to cherish the memory of Maureen Cagiano is her husband Andy Cagiano of Southern Shores and their three sons and spouses, grandchildren and spouses, and great grandchildren: Mark Cagiano and wife Andrea of Douglasville, Georgia, Paul Cagiano and wife Kathy of Southern Shores, and Steve Cagiano and wife Ann of Greenbelt, Maryland, two grandchildren Erin Mann and husband Brandon, Cara Wynn and husband Jamie, and three great-grandchildren Barrett Mann, Brynna Mann, and Bryson Wynn. Many extended family members, co-workers, and friends are also left with wonderful memories of their friend Maureen Cagiano.
The memorial service will be held 10 AM Tuesday March 15, 2011 at All Saints Episcopal Church. Father Tom Wilson will officiate. Friends and family may gather in the church fellowship hall following the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that any memorial tributes be forwarded to Outer Banks Hotline P.O. Box 1490 Manteo, NC 27954 and/or to the Southern Shores Volunteer Fire Department 15 South Dogwood Trail, Southern Shores, NC 27949 (Please note Maureen Cagiano’s name on donation check.)
