Mary Hulsman Doyle
Mary Hulsman Doyle was born June 26, 1929 and departed this world on October 31, 2023.
She grew up in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and married Bob Doyle in 1949. Bob and Mary were happily married for 72 years until his death in 2022. They raised 7 children in New Kensington, PA. In 1982 after their youngest graduated high school, they moved to Kill Devil Hills to live an early retirement life at the beach! A member of Holy Redeemer by the Sea, Mary enjoyed time spent with family and friends, a quilting group, Ladies by the Sea activities, volunteering for Hotline and membership in the Democratic Women of Dare County. “Grammy” helped to care for her grandchildren who fondly remember summer days at the Duck Woods pool with her.
Mary was a homemaker and enjoyed maintaining a cozy home, her neighborhood and gathering the family for birthdays and seasonal meals. She centered her life around the Catholic Eucharistic celebration of the Mass and in her final days found solace saying the prayers of the rosary. Her children Catherine Doyle and James Doyle helped her around the house until a serious fall injury in July 2023 required hospitalization.
She is survived by her children, Cathy (Ron DeVeau) and Jim as well as Robert, William, Mary and Charles Doyle, grandchildren Lydia Doyle, Luke Doyle (Anna Rawlins), Daniel DeVeau, Katie Mausteller (Johnny) and Anna Kennis plus two great grandchildren, Vermont and Maeve. Her favorite daughter Maggie Kennis passed away in 2012. Mary’s brothers, James and John Hulsman, who called her Dolly, stayed in contact, visited and brought her joy.
A Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at Holy Redeemer by the Sea Church in Kitty Hawk on Monday, November 27 at 11 AM to be followed by the urn burial at Laurel Memorial Gardens in Poplar Branch. The family would like to thank the nursing staff at Peak Resources for their kindness and professional care.
