Martha Barry Darden Middleton
Kitty Hawk- Martha was born in Washington, DC on September 13, 1936, to William and Helen Roche Darden. She graduated from St Anthony’s High School, Immaculata Junior College and Dunbarton College of Holy Cross.
After college, Martha taught at Holy Redeemer in College Park, and at Holy Trinity in Georgetown, Washington. DC. During summers, she worked at the FBI.
She married Blair Gerard (Jerry) Middleton on December 27th, 1967. They had two children, Martha Lynn (Patrick) and Blair Gerard, Jr (Leigh). They also had three beloved grandchildren, Rena Kinsey, Riley Ann, and Rachel Darden. Martha had many other relatives and friends who loved her dearly.
She was very active in local groups, including Food for Thought, water aerobics, and her Book Club. She spent many years doing decorations for various events and Church services.
She loved the Beach. After 20 years of living on the Outer Banks, she still said ‘Thank you, God’ every time she spotted the ocean.
Most of all, she was Mar, Mom and, Grandma, to us, her family, as well as her friends. She loved us dearly, and would do, or give anything for us. She was our rock, our grounding point, the one we came to when times were good or bad, the one who celebrated our successes, and consoled our sorrows. She would put the light on, and have a hot meal waiting, no matter the hour. She taught us all about life, love, chocolate chip cookies, and the beach. We will miss her terribly.
A celebration of the life of Martha Middleton will be held at All Saints Episcopal Church in Southern Shores at 11:00 am Tuesday July 8, 2014. Father Tom Wilson will be the officiant.
