Marilyn Kaufman O’Bleness

September 15, 2021

Marilyn Kaufman O’Bleness, 79, of Kill Devil Hills, NC peacefully went home to be with Jesus after a short illness on September 15, 2021, with her daughter and son in law by her side. Born in Wartburg, TN, September 20, 1941, to David and Carrie Kaufman, Marilyn was the youngest of eight children. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gene O’Bleness; her seven brothers and sisters; as well as her stepsons, Patrick O’Bleness and Michael O’Bleness.

Marilyn is survived by her daughter, Edie Parsons (Daniel) of Kill Devil Hills; stepdaughter, Nancy Bradley (Greg) of Maryville, TN; daughter in law, Tammy O’Bleness of Texas; seven grandchildren, Devin Parsons, Noah Parsons, Timothy Parsons, Sara Parsons, Allison Bradley, Rebecca Bradley and Lexie O’Bleness; and four great-grandchildren, Jacob, Brailyn, Audrey and Aniya. Marilyn cherished her grandchildren and great-grandchildren dearly.

Marilyn retired from St. Andrews Episcopal Church after many years as the church secretary. She spent part of her retirement in Tennessee, until returning to be with her daughter. Marilyn will celebrate her 80th birthday in Heaven with her husband, and all of her siblings will be together. She was loved by her family and will be missed, but we know she is healed, and we will see her again.

The family will hold a private graveside service, with a celebration of life to be held sometime in November. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations in Marilyn’s honor be made to Dayspring Ministries, PO Box 163, Kill Devil Hills, NC 27948 or St. Andrews by the Sea, 42125 Virginia Dare Trail, Nags Head, NC 27959. Both of these ministries hold a special place in her heart.
