Major Edward Curles

Lifelong resident of Wanchese- Major Edward Curles was called home to be with the Lord September 9, 2023 in Nags Head. He was 84 years old. Born March 27, 1939 in Duck, NC, Major was the son of Jackson Curles and Fannie Rodgers Curles both deceased. Major’s life was also impacted by the loss of his son, James “Jimmy” Curles; his four brothers, Alonzo Curles, Jack Curles, Garfield “G.C.” Curles, and Aldridge “Poss” Curles; and three sisters, Dora Hines, Josephine McDonald, and Gladys White.

Major was a devoted family man and successful commercial fisherman who leaves behind numerous relatives and friends to celebrate his long life. They include his wife, Eleanor “Lena” Gallop Curles; two daughters, Sherri Butcher (Jody) and Sandy Midgett (Mike); one son, Shawn Curles (Audrey); three grandchildren, Kaitlyn Midgett, Finn Curles, and Isla Curles, and a host of other relatives and family friends.

The Curles family is honoring Major’s directives for a simple, strictly private burial. The family will hold a memorial gathering in the future. Please share condolences at gallopfuneralservices.com. Gallop Funeral Services was entrusted with arrangements.
