Luke Hudson Boykin, III
Thank you to everyone who donated to Luke’s memorial. Our family very much appreciates everyone’s kindness.
We are planning a celebration of Luke’s life to be held on November 20th at noon. We will meet in the parking lot of Gift Garden (was T-Tops) at the corner of the bypass and West Lake Drive to share our memories of Luke.
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Luke Hudson Boykin III at the age of 65. He passed peacefully in his sleep at his home in Colington Harbor, NC.
Born In Scottsboro, Alabama, he lived in Oregon, Ohio and spent much of his youth in Florida, moving frequently because of his father’s service in the Air Force. After graduating high school in Northern Virginia in 1974, he embarked on a cross-country motorcycle ride.
In his younger years, he enjoyed being on the water spending his weekends boating, fishing and waterskiing with his partner in life and his two children.
He was well known on the Outer Banks as an honest and hard-working auto mechanic and the owner of Luke’s Auto Repair. He inherited his love of cars and racing from his grandfather. In his recent years he has spent much of his spare time drag racing motorcycles with his son, Luke Boykin IV.
He was a kind and loving partner to his long-time partner, Susan Weber, as well as an amazing father to his daughter, Candice Boykin of Arlington, Virginia and his son, Luke Boykin IV of Grandy, NC. He is also survived by Boomer, the dog he didn’t want but grew to love.
Aside from his partner and children, he is survived by his brother, Charles Curtis Boykin of Salt Lake City, Utah. He is also survived by his step-mother Judy Boykin of Niceville, Florida, many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Ann Curtis Boykin, his father, Luke Boykin, Jr, both of Niceville, Florida, and his sister Lisa Phillips of Burke, Virginia.
Plans for memorial services are pending at this time. Expressions of sympathy and comfort are welcome via the on-line register at www.gallopfuneralservices.com. Gallop Funeral Services, Inc. was entrusted with arrangements.
Condolences
I have had only a few consistent friends through the years and he's been the one I did the most with. We were room mates for several years, skied a lot, raced cars & motorcycles, traveled around the country on motorcycle, played music (he played drums and guitar), went to Jamaica, he was one of my groomsmen... I will miss Luke sorely.
I am so sad to know that Luke has passed. He was a wonderful, kind and caring man. I know he will be missed by many. He was one heck of a mechanic! God Speed my friend. Prayers and thoughts for the family. God Bless.
Our deepest condolences to Susan, Luke, Candice, and all who loved him.
I loved this man, I was at peace with every beater car I’ve owned knowing he was there and most likely even have his beater loaner for me to use. I looked forward to catching up with him, had so many wonderful heartfelt conversations through decades of hard knock life events. I am devastated at this loss and will miss him so so much, I cannot even imagine how heartbroken his family must be. I pray for “Little Luke”, the only family I’ve met but loved to see, and all,, my most sincere condolences.
Our family offers our sincere condolences for your loss. Luke was our car's and truck's surgeon for many years. He had many positive impacts on our family. Luke hired my son, Martin to work in the shop; loaning him tools and allowing him to work on his car. I am awed by his motorcycle racing abilities and talents to keep my old Z-car tuned up and running strong. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.
Luke will be sadly missed by the employees of Lucky 12 Tavern, he was one of our favorite customers.
My husband and I were so sad to hear of Luke's passing. He was our mechanic for many years. He was the kindest man, always there to help. He was the only person we trusted with our vehicles. He was honest, kind, and generous and he will be missed greatly by many. Praying for his family and friends during this difficult time...
I cant even to begin to tell you how sad I was when I got back from vacation Tuesday and heard of his passing! I knew Luke when I moved here in 1994 and knew right away that he was a caring and honest individual! I always brought my cars and trucks to him knowing that when I gave it to him that when I got it back, there was no problem with it being right! He was honest and no matter what the cost was, it didn't matter! He will be greatly missed on this small island! God's speed my friend! He helped many people who may have not had the money but he always made it work! You were a blessing to many on this Island! RIP
So sad. I just learned of Luke's passing as I was gone on a road trip. He was a good friend, a superb mechanic and a kind soul. He has kept my old van running like new for many years and we shared a love of fast motorcycles. I recently bought a new bike and he asked me to bring it by so he could see it. I stopped by and he was gone...Godspeed my friend...
We are very sad to hear about Luke. We loved him, and thought the world of him. A friend like Luke is rare, and we are so BLESSED to have known him! Prayers and comfort to the family.
As a young customer, Luke was like my dad away from home. He always took care of my car quickly and he truly cared. He became a friend in passing over the years and it was always a joy to say hello to him. God bless.
Godspeed Luke, you will be truly missed by many who loved you.
My most sincere condolences. Luke was a good man and I enjoyed seeing him every so often for work or an inspection. I'll miss our little talks. May God bless you with many sweet memories of him.
Just learned of Luke's passing, and I'm saddened because he was such a good guy. Only knew Luke through his shop, but trusted him explicitly, and my vehicles never failed me. Hopefully "little" Luke will take over the shop and I'll get to hear more racing stories. God bless the Boykin family.
