Lovey Moore

Manteo- Lovey Sue Burton Bethea Moore, 86, died at her home in Manteo, NC on March 22 surrounded by family. She was the widow of The Rev. Calvin C Moore and the daughter of the late Cora Mae McClease Burton of Manteo and Daniel Burton of Currituck. She was predeceased by her brothers Daniel Burton Jr., Alfred Burton, and
Wilbur Burton.
She is survived by her sisters Mabel Porter, Ethel Bowser, Connie Mae Selby, Gloria Burton, Aquilla Bryant (Matthew), and Pricilla Hardy (Al).
Also left to mourn her loss are 26 nephews and nieces, four of which she raised as her own in her home, Stevie Joe Burton, Julius Selby, Lovey Elizabeth Selby and Whitney Selby, and more than 150 great nieces and nephews, as well as many more family members and a host
of friends.
The funeral will be held on Monday March 28, 2016 at 2 pm at Manteo First Assembly of God Church, (N. Main Hwy. and Wingina), with the Elder T.J. Etheridge, nephew of the deceased, conducting
the service. Burial will be private.
She was a member of Haven Creek Baptist Church, The Roanoke Island Freedmen’s Colony Preservation Association, The Echoes of Heritage, and a faithful worker with the Meals on Wheels at Mt Olivet Methodist Church.
She was a devoted and strong community leader. She spent over 20 years of her life as Social Services Director of the Economics Improvement Council’s Head Start Program in the ten county Albermarle area.
