LouEtta Ann Shrum

June 7, 2026

Kill Devil Hills – It is with great sadness and immense love that we announce the passing of LouEtta Ann Shrum, who passed away peacefully at the home of her daughter on June 7, 2026, at the age of 73. She was lovingly cared for by her family during the final weeks of a year-long battle with stage four lung cancer.

Lou was preceded in death by her loving husband of 50 years, Terry Lee Shrum Sr.; her sister, Karen Kirin Armstrong; and her mother, father and stepfather.

To many, she was Lou. She was born on November 16, 1952 in West Brownsville, Pennsylvania. On April 3, 1971 she married the absolute love of her life.

More than four decades ago, they made the Outer Banks their home. While she embraced the coastal breeze, she never lost the warm, steadfast spirit of her Pennsylvania roots.

She taught her children the importance of keeping their word, the value of honesty, and always listen to their hearts. She lived her life with authenticity, a trait she firmly passed down to her two children, both of whom are just as stubborn as she was.

When she wasn’t relaxing watching Hallmark movies, she could often be found spending time with her children, or grandchildren, or enjoying a lively game of bingo, always ready for the next call. At the end of last year, she developed a newfound love for cruising, which allowed her to enjoy the sea on a grander scale.

Lou is survived by her children, Terry Shrum II and Stephanie Scarborough (Clayton); her three grandchildren, Lillian, Jordyn and Terry III; and many more extended family and friends.

She will be deeply missed and forever loved by her family, her friends, and the coastal community she was a part of for over forty years.

No services are planned at this time. Please share expressions of sympathy for the family at www.gallopfuneralservices.com,. Gallop Funeral Services was entrusted with arrangements.
