  3. Worshipful Carl was my mentor and taught me my catechisms when I was indoctrinated into Masonry. He and I talked about his lovely wife Lola. He was a great man and he had a lovely wife in his corner. God bless you Mrs.Thompson and your family. Go meet your husband.

  4. My heartfelt sympathy for the family of Ms Lindsay. She gave the best hugs. I will never forget her and her love for bacon. She was so sweet and kind to me. She encouraged me soooooo much. I looked forward to seeing her every Monday and Thursday. She will definitely be missed.

Lola Castor Thompson

January 9, 2025

Lola C. Thompson, 90, passed way of natural causes January 9, 2025. Lola was predeceased by her husband, Carl Ray Thompson; her son, Carl Robert Thompson; her parents, Gordon and Lena Castor; as well as her three siblings.

Lola was born in Ashland, Ohio and grew up in Point Pleasant, West Virginia. After completing high school, Lola went on to attend Marshall College (now Marshall University). During these years, she met and married Carl Ray and the family embarked on many years of military travel across the country; including stops in Charleston, South Carolina, Key West, Florida, and southern California.

Following Carl’s Navy retirement, they made their home in Virginia Beach, Virginia. There, she completed her teaching degree and found employment in the Virginia Beach Public School system, where she taught first grade for over 20 years. Recently, Lola moved to Kill Devil Hills to be closer to her daughters, Cyd, Susan, and Laura.

In addition to her daughters, Cindy “Cyd” Dough of Kill Devil Hills, NC,  Susan Wyche of Frisco, NC, and Laura Harrell (Norman) of Colington, NC, she is also survived by two granddaughters, Holly Alligood (Kevin) and Lauren Brinkley (Travis); five great-grandchildren, Jax and Julian Alligood, and Mason, Waverly and Everly Brinkley; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and other extended family members.

The family is honoring Lola’s preference for cremation and plans for a private memorial are pending. Expressions of sympathy are welcome at www.gallopfuneralservices.com. Gallop Funeral Services was entrusted with arrangements.
