Linda Atkinson
Kill Devil Hills- Linda Atkinson, age 64, of Kill Devil Hills, North Carolina, passed away on January 16, 2016 following a difficult battle with lung cancer.
Linda was born in Philadelphia on May 19, 1951 to Edward and Jean Malkiewicz. She graduated from Kellam High School in Virginia Beach in 1969 and later had a long career in the medical field including being a Practice Manager, a Medical Biller and a Nurse.
Linda had a lifelong interest in crafts of all sorts and loved to crochet and knit. She was an avid Gardner and loved to grow fresh vegetables. She loved taking long walks on the beach with her husband Chuck and they recently started taking RV road trips together. Her happiest moments were having sun on her face and sand on her feet especially when she was spending summers with her grandkids and nephews. She also had a passion for helping others and you could often find her volunteering at the local nursing home or Ruthie’s Community Kitchen. She was an active member of The Order of the Daughters of the King and a member of St. Andrews by-the-Sea Episcopal Church in Nags Head, NC
Linda was predeceased by her brother Edward Rick Malkiewicz and her parents, Jean and Edward Malkiewicz. Left to cherish her memories are her loving husband of 37 years Charles Atkinson, her sister Michele Grove and spouse John, her 3 daughters Jeanine Dunn, Stacey Brown, Kelly DeGrave and their spouses Don, Barry and Robert and her 4 grandchildren Joshua Miller, Chloe Dunn, Brianna Harrell, Grace DeGrave, two nephews Alexander Hutcheson and Cameron Grove as well as a host of other family and friends.
A funeral service will be held at St. Andrew’s by-the-Sea, Nags Head NC on Friday January 22, 2016 at 3:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that a donation be made in her honor to Free to Breathe at freetobreathe.org.
