Karen Stewart Green

September 10, 2024

Karen Stewart Green left us on the sunny afternoon of Tuesday, September 10, 2024.  She made it back to Carolina, and was living in Nags Head, NC.  Born on December 19, 1950 in Charlotte, North Carolina, she attended East Mecklenburg High School and went on to undergraduate studies at Western Carolina University in Sylva, NC.  But life had other plans, and she began her family, whom she loved eternally.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Marcus Herman and Susan Parker Stewart and her beloved Dachshund, Oscar.  She is survived by her sister, Gwen Stewart of Charlotte, and two children, Kelly Green of Nags Head NC, and Casey Green married to Arlene, of Chesterfield VA, and their three children, Briona, Mattingly, and Kennan Green as well as many nieces and nephews.

Karen was a gentle, kind soul who loved big.  She enjoyed many great friendships throughout her life, most notably with Karen Jones of Forest, VA. The Karens were always on a beach vacation or supporting each other’s families.  Karen loved being outside!  She loved to fish, walk her dog, tinker with her cars, and go camping.  But the beach was her favorite spot, and she collected lighthouse memorabilia from each beach adventure.

Karen’s career was spent in service of others, often prioritizing their needs over her own. She worked as bookkeeper and office manager for several organizations in Virginia, including opening the first Leggett store at the Spotsylvania Mall in Fredericksburg, and as Glenn Goodpasture’s Closing Assistant in Fredericksburg, VA.  She did find her true calling when she passed the State Boards to become a Long-Term Care Health Care Administrator.

Karen then dedicated her life and career to providing dignified, superior care to the elderly.  She specialized in Alzheimer’s and memory care, building specialized facilities for the care of such patients in her homes.  Karen’s service as an administrator began in 1987, and spanned over 25 years. She ran facilities in Danville, Lynchburg, King George and Fredericksburg, VA.   She enjoyed her distinguished career, and it culminated in her receiving the award of the “Best Nursing Home in America” by the American Medical Association in 2011.

Graveside services will be held at Sharon Memorial Park – 5716 Monroe Road Charlotte NC, 28212 on Saturday October 12, 2024 at 2 PM. Please share condolences with the family at www.gallopfuneralservices.com. Gallop Funeral Services, Inc. was entrusted with arrangements.
