Karen Piccola Power
Duck – Karen Piccola Power was a loving mother, nana, sister, and friend. She died peacefully in her sleep at her home on the morning of March 24, 2023 at the age of 72.
She was the daughter of the late Bertam and Barbara Bose. She was born on July 11, 1950 in Corpus Christie, TX. After graduating from high school, she attended the University of Maryland at Frostberg and received her degree in education. It was during her first teaching job that she met and married F. Scott Piccola. Together, they had two children, Khara and Rocky.
Karen left her teaching career, moved to Virginia and began her career in the commercial flooring industry. She married the late Thomas M. Power in 1992 and they remained married for the next 16 years. Karen is survived by her two children, Khara Meer, husband Kevin of Virginia Beach, and Scott “Rocky” Piccola of Virginia Beach; her brother, Fred Bose of Glen Burnie, MD; and nephews, Sam Bose and Kevin Bose of Maryland. She is also survived by her 5 grandchildren, Kallee, Jaxon, Ryan, Ella and Emma and her beloved dog, Pipa. Karen was predeceased by her husband in 2009.
Karen was most loved for leaving a trail of glitter and happiness wherever she went. She had a passion for creating, especially painting. Her greatest adventure was becoming a nana to her grandchildren. She was also known for infectious smile and love of mermaids.
The family will be celebrating the life of Karen Power on Saturday, April 15, 2023 at 2 pm at her home, 104 Duck Ridge Village Ct, Duck, North Carolina. All are welcome to join us. We are saddened to learn of the loss of Karen, our favorite Duck mermaid. Karen was a friend to every officer in Duck, and we will remember her for her bright smile, quick wit, and kindness.
I was so saddened upon hearing of the passing of Karen. What a force she was. Loved working with her on Special Projects in the Garden Club. I will truly miss you Karen. Now show the other mermaids how to party. Love you

Our dearest, brave, sweet Karen, none of us thought we would be saying goodbye to you this soon. Karen was beautiful inside and out. She always had a smile and was thinking of others, even to the end. I miss you so much and will always remember our fun times together - crafting, shopping, beach & pool time, and just talking!
I can't even put into words how much Karen Power meant to me, my best girls, and my family. But I will try, because I owe her that at the very least. Karen - thank you for being a constant support & presence in all of our lives for over 20 years. I will never forget the first time I met you & Tom when I came home with Khara for a from ECU over Christmas break...."Well damn hunny, didn't your parents buy you some new jeans for Christmas?!?!" Her honesty, tell it like it is, and truly loving spirit was uplifting & inspiring. She loved with all her heart. She was generous, welcoming, and we all loved her to pieces. She will be missed by everyone that knew and met her. I take comfort knowing that she is free from pain & with her greatest love of all, Tom Power. Swim on for eternity my beautiful mermaid mama. Karen was one of the sweetest, happiest people I have ever known. I was blessed to have known her. She is missed by all of us and will be loved forever.
