Julian Carr Gallop
Harbinger – Julian Carr Gallop, 92, of Harbinger, NC died peacefully at his home in the early morning hours of Monday, Sept. 19, 2016. Julian was born on Feb. 26, 1924 in Currituck County to the late Hiram Gallop and Molly Shannon.
He grew up in Manteo, NC where he learned the work ethic and value of family that would define the man he became. His stories of his childhood included not only his adventures in and around Roanoke Island and Manns Harbor but also his family that he loved so dearly. He was one of 14 children.
World War II took him to the other side of the world while serving his country in the United States Coast Guard. After the war he found employment as an Insurance Salesman and a lifelong career was established. His achievements, awards, recognitions and successes were considerable and set him apart in the industry.
It was Julian’s family that was the source of his greatest pride. His father died when he was just barely a teenager and he stepped into a role of caretaker for his Moma and baby sisters. It was a role where his care, concern and compassion was clearly evident.
In addition to his parents, Julian was predeceased by his wife of 58 years, Christiana Harris, a son, Hiram, brothers, Hiriam, Herrel, Lincoln and Selton and sisters, Margaret and Lillian.
Among those left to cherish his memory are his wife JoAnn, daughter Kathy, granddaughter Kimberly (Brian), grandson Shannon, sisters Mildred West, Lucinda Baum, Lucille Sykes (Howard), Ruth Creef, Myrtle Stevens (Keith), Elizabeth Cox and Mollie Royals.. His extended family includes a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and a blended family with children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and countless friends.
