Judy Parker Sessler

Wanchese- Judy Parker Sessler, 70, died Sunday, January 27 at her home in Wanchese. Jerome Powers, her biological father, died before her birth. Her mother, Judith Daniels Powers, later married Dallas P. Parker, who raised Judy as his own.

She graduated from Elizabeth City High School in 1961. On February 23, 1963 she married Luke J. Sessler Jr. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Norfolk, Va.

She worked as a teacher’s aid in Virginia and later as a substitute teacher in Currituck County High School. She owned and operated several small businesses, including the first video store in Moyock, and later thrift stores and bingos in Currituck and Dare County.

She is survived by her husband of 49 years, Luke; her siblings: Dallas P. Parker II and wife Elizabeth, Betty P. Donahoe, Sheila P. Napolitano and husband Vincent, and Mark L. Parker and wife Kim; her children: Luke and wife Wendy, Elizabeth and husband Steve Hodgis, Bobby and wife Tracy, Joey and Alan; grandchildren: Dusty, Mark, Shelby, Luke, Chelsea, Jessica, Alex,
Christa, Josh, Parker, Jordan, and Austin; and one great-grandchild, Ayden.

A memorial service for Judy P. Sessler will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, February 12 at Bethany United Methodist Church in Wanchese. David Daniels and Pastor Jerome Smith will be officiating.
