Joseph Leon Monroe

Kitty Hawk- Joseph Leon Monroe, “Joey” died unexpectedly Thursday, June 2, at the age of 63. Originally from Elizabeth City, Joey has lived and worked in Kitty Hawk since 1972.

Joey was a veteran of the US Army and a long time member of the Ridge Anglers Surf Fishing Club. Founder and proprietor of EverReady Parking Marking, he served on the Kitty Hawk Recreation Committee and was an active member of Lighthouse Christian Fellowship. He will long be remembered for his distinctive, natural beard and his signature “Whooooo”. He loved life and lived to the fullest, enjoying family, friends and his dog Duke!

Joey will be dearly missed by his loving wife, Cathy Gagnon Monroe of the home, his children Melissa Jo and Matthew Joseph, and his granddaughter Madeline Josephine, all of Kitty Hawk. He is survived by his brother Ron Fields of Mesa, Arizona, and predeceased by his parents, Joseph and Doris Monroe of Elizabeth City.

A celebration of life will be held Sunday, June 5, at 2:00 P.M. at Lighthouse Christian Fellowship Church in Kitty Hawk. Family and friends will gather after the service in the fellowship hall. Memorial donations in Joey’s honor may be made to The Joey Monroe Memorial Fund at Gateway Bank. Condolences to the family may be expressed via the on-line register at www.gallopfuneralservices.com.
