John Walton Thompson Jr

Manteo –  John Walton Thompson Jr., AKA “Buddy”, 72, of Dare County, N.C., stepped into the arms of Jesus on Friday, July 24, 2015.

A native of Portsmouth, Virginia, he was the son of the late John Walton Thompson Sr. and Doris Virginia Odom Thompson.  He was an Army Veteran serving in Korea and the proud creator of “The Senior Adult Cheer Person” logo.  He loved to sing and cheer for the races and events in Dare County. He loved to tell jokes and cheer people up and make them laugh, this was his calling and he enjoyed it very much….. Buddy will be missed by all who knew him.

He is survived by his loving sister, Patsy Reynolds Denny and husband, Paul; Niece, Darlene Thomsen Sells and husband, Doug; Nephew, Chaplain ”COL” Darrell E. Thomsen, Jr. and wife, Kitty. He is also survived by his four children; Kim Thompson Wikki, Wendy Thompson Venable, Katie Thompson Hartley and John Everett Thompson; 8 grandchildren; 2 great-nephews; 3 great nieces; and 2 great-great nephews.   Special thanks to all the great nurses, care partners, family and friends caring for Buddy during this time.

A celebration of his life will take place on Thursday, July 30, 2015 at 6:00 p.m. at the Roanoke Island Presbyterian Church in Manteo, N.C. with Pastor Lorrie Ghering-Burick officiating.
