Joan M. Gillespie

November 29, 2023

Joan M. Gillespie, 91, departed this earthly life in Elizabeth City, NC Wednesday November 29, 2023. She was preceded in death by her parents and her beloved husband of 71 years Richard in 2022.

Joan was born in York County, PA but since moving to Kitty Hawk 44 years ago, she considered North Carolina home. Joan loved all people- especially her Kitty Hawk United Methodist Church friends whom she considered her family.

After many years of play, Joan became a master duplicate bridge player. Joan’s passions for  bridge, friends, traveling, and parties were what made her life unique and fulfilling.

Joan Gillespie leaves her daughter, Linda Gillespie and son-in-law Gary Hoover of Kitty Hawk to celebrate her life. As Joan appreciated simplicity, she will be laid to rest privately beside Richard in Southern shores Cemetery.

Linda and Gary will hold a memorial service Monday, December 4, 2023 at 1 pm at Kitty Hawk united Methodist Church. Family and friends are welcome. Please share condolences or a memory with the family at www.gallopfuneralservices.com. Gallop Funeral Services, Inc. was entrusted with arrangements.
