Jean Isabel Sherwood

Southern Shores- Jean Isabel Sherwood fought a short, but brave battle with cancer and passed peacefully in her sleep, surrounded by family Friday, June 9, 2017.  Jean was born in Maplewood, NJ on June 25, 1956. She served in the in the US Air Force as a jet engine mechanic from 1978 until 1982, followed by government service at Kelly Air Force Base until 1995.

 In 2002 she moved to the Outer Banks to be closer to family and was a Real Estate Professional for Carolina Designs Realty. She loved spending time with family, dogs (especially collies), jazz, beachcombing, and advanced Lego construction. Jean had a playful and spirited sense of humor that brought laughs and smiles to all those whose lives she touched. Jean channeled her passion for animals into support of the Collie Rescue organization.

Surviving Jean Sherwood are her five siblings; Kathryn (Kathie) Schumacher and husband Charles, Margaret (Peggy) Birkemeier and husband William (Bill), Nancy Sherwood, William (Bill) Sherwood and wife Nancy, Robert (Bob) Sherwood and wife Jerry (Judy), as well as her nieces and nephews: Glen Schumacher and wife Morie, Kara Schumacher, Sara Birkemeier and husband George, Emily Threatt and husband Kenneth, William (Chris) Sherwood, her great nieces and nephews: Tiana, Trey and Kaya Threatt, Caroline Schumacher, Chris Countouriotis and wife Michelle, Megan Countouriotis and her beloved collie, Daisy Mae.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Collie Rescue, Inc. at PO Box 221982, Chantilly, VA 20153; the Currituck Dare Women’s Fund managed by the North Carolina Community Foundation at 3737 Glenwood Ave, Suite 400, Raleigh, NC 27612; Dare County Health & Hospice at PO Box 669 Manteo, NC 25754 or a charity of your choice.

A memorial service with military honors will be held 4pm, Tuesday, July 11, 2017 at the Outer Banks Unitarian Universalist Church in Kitty Hawk.
