Jean Hardy Dexter

December 23, 2021

Jean Hardy Dexter, born August 18, 1927 in Midland MI, passed away peacefully in her sleep December 23, 2021. A stay-at-home mother in her early years after marriage, she was an artist at heart and pursued pottery and painting, using both acrylics and (her favorite) watercolors. She was a member of the North Carolina WaterColor Society and featured in shows from North Carolina to Michigan.

While she was born and raised in Midland, MI, the family moved within Michigan, to New Jersey, to Illinois, to Ohio, to New York and finally resting in the small sailing community of Oriental, North Carolina. She loved her little town and the people. She was lucky enough to live there for almost 45 years. She loved teaching others in workshops in clay forming and firing, collage and watercolor.

Jean was predeceased by her parents, Lynn and Mabel Hardy, her brother William Hardy, her sisters Ruth and Marietta, her husband Paul, and her niece Lynda and her son Jack.

She is survived by her son, Stephen; daughter, Jill; son, Tad; grandson, Paul Dexter; granddaughters, Ashleigh, Melissa, Megan, Leslie and Jeanette; and great grandchildren, Thomas, Gavin, Liam, Kayleigh, Hattie, Hannah, Laney, McKenzie, Berkleigh, Emma, Maya and Claire. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Donations can be made in her honor to the Pamlico Arts Council Scholarship Program PO Box 104 Bayboro, NC 28515
