Janice & Robert Mullen

July 18, 2023
Grandy, NC – Janice E. Mullen, (August 4, 1953 – July 17, 2023) and Robert H. (June 6, 1949 – July 18, 2023)
Robert “Bob” and Janice “Jan” were both born in Stark County, Ohio. Jan was a Massillon Tiger and Bob was a Jackson Polar Bear. Through the good times and the bad, their love always endured. They married at First Baptist Church of Massillon in Massillon, Ohio, on October 21, 1978. Four years later, they gave birth to fraternal twin daughters, Amanda and Janine. Jan was a licensed practical nurse for several decades working for the local nursing home in Massillon, and Bob worked for Superior Dairy. Bob also volunteered with both Jackson Township and Perry Township Fire Departments and EMS.
The family moved to the Outer Banks in 1996, where Jan vacationed for many years as a little girl. Jan worked at Sentara Nursing Home for many years before retiring, and Bob worked as a maintenance supervisor for different real estate companies on the Outer Banks, while also volunteering with the Lower Currituck Fire Department and EMS before retiring.
Bob served his country honorably as a Navy veteran, and fulfilling his duties allowed him to travel across the world. His most important duties were carried out in Iceland in the 1970s.
Jan was preceded in death by her father, Melvin Mingle, her mother Ruth (Luther) Mingle, and her brother, Robert Mingle. Bob was preceded in death by his father, Thomas George Mullen, his mother, Elizabeth “Betty” (Zengler) Mullen, and his oldest brother, Tom Mullen.
They are loved and survived by their two daughters, Amanda, who resides in Conway, SC and Janine, who resides in Grandy, NC; and their two granddaughters, Maya and Delaney, who reside in Conway, SC. Jan is also survived by her older sister, Linda Shepherd (Chuck) of Utica, Ohio. Bob is survived by his older brother, David (Kathy) Mullen of Massillon, Ohio. They are also loved and survived by several nieces and nephews, as well as numerous friends.

Condolences
I'm sorry for your loss. May your parents Legacy live on in your hearts. May the Lord grant you peace beyond all understanding.
I spent many of my high school nights camping on Mr. & Mrs. Mullen's living room floor watching Backstreet Boys concerts with Amanda. Janice was always working nights but always so kind and loving to me as if I were her child. Bob was a 2nd Dad to me and he was also so kind and would always give the best advice. Bob actually was the officiant of my wedding. I was blessed to have two amazing and kind people come into my life in one of the hardest and darkest times of my life. I love and respect them both so much. I am going to miss Bob's random messages on Facebook checking on me and my sweet boy. You are both missed more than words can tell you. Thank you both for being my step-in parents.
Amanda and Janine, I am so sorry for the sudden loss of both of your parents. May God bring you comfort and joy during this difficult time.
Hugs & prayers to Janine , Amanda, family members. Scott & i both enjoyed knowing Bob & Jan. My heart goes out to you all.
My sister (Carole Brewbaker) and I grew up with Bob. They lived across the street from us. He was the brother we never had. Back in 1977 my father had a heart attack, and Bob was first to our house. He did everything to save my dads life. Was not ment to be, and in that moment, Bob became my hero even though he could not save my dad. We recently reconnected. I will miss him greatly. My heart goes out to his daughters. I am so sorry for the loss of your parents.
