Janet Foster Harden
Southern Shores – Janet Foster Harden, 74, passed away at the Currituck House on October 23, 2015. Janet was born in Hollywood, CA and attended Arizona State University and graduated from San Diego State University. She also completed her Masters of Arts of Education at The College of William and Mary and her degree of Education Specialist at The George Washington University.
Janet spent the majority of her life teaching at all grade levels, in California, Arizona, Connecticut, Virginia and Italy. She received a certificate of Excellence Performance from the Department of Defense Dependents’ School, became a member of Phi Delta Kappa International, Italia Chapter, and completed the program of Theological Education from the School of Theology, the University of the South. In addition to her outstanding career in education, Janet had a long career as a flight attendant and corporate spokesperson for Trans World Airlines. She took advantage of her position with TWA to fly her family to England often to catch up on her “Royals.”
Janet was deeply involved with All Saint’s Episcopal Church in Southern Shores where she was a member of the Daughter’s of the King. She spent a lot of time volunteering through out Dare County and had been a volunteer with ICO since 2006. In addition to loving her cats, her family in Arizona, Duck Woods Country Club and the lighthouses of the Outer Banks, Janet cherished keeping tabs on the entertainment industry, as she never forgot where she was born.
Janet is survived by her husband of 27 years, David Harden, Southern Shores, and her son Marc Porterfield, Santa Monica, CA and her step-son Jon Harden, Berryville, VA and step-daughter Ashlie Uvaerkaller, Chesapeake, VA as well as her aunt and uncle Linda and Forrest Tate, Chandler, AZ and her grandchildren Zachary, Zora, Hazel, Alex, Avery, Laura, and Grace.
Funeral Services will be held on November 14, 2015 at 2pm at All Saint’s Episcopal Church, Southern Shores.
