James J. Prendergast, Jr.
KILL DEVIL HILLS – James J. Prendergast, Jr. died in his home on July 30th surrounded by his family after a brief illness.
Jim was born and raised in Brooklyn, NY and served his country during the Korean conflict. He was an active member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, Oceanside, NY and Holy Redeemer Catholic Church where he was sacristant, Eucharitic Minister, and a member of the Liturgical Committee among many other ministries. He was a Past Grand Knight and still current member of the Fr. Joseph O’Connell Council Knights of Columbus #3481 in Oceanside, NY, and is still a member of the Cardinal Mercier Assembly 4th Degree #705.
He is predeceased by his son Paul and his parents James and Agnes Prendergast. He is survived by his wife Barbara of 53 yrs., his children James, Denis, Theresa Perry, Matthew, Joan Colicino, Barbara Kenny and Steven along with their spouses and 18 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his 4 sisters, Agnes Prendergast, Susan Fitzgerald, Eileen Powers and Claire Waterfield along with many nieces and nephews. He was an angel among us. Now he is our saint looking over us. He will be in our hearts forever.
The funeral Mass at Holy Redeemer By the Sea is scheduled for Fri, Aug. 17, at 11am followed with a reception supplied by The Ladies By The Sea.
We will then go up to NY and have the Mass on Mon., Aug.20th, also at 11am, at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Oceanside since he was a Past Grand Knight there. There will be a short reception in the hall after wards and burial in Long Island National Cemetery after that. We are figuring to get to the cemetery between 2:00 and 2:30pm.
