Hugh Arthur Lutton

Hugh Arthur Lutton died peacefully Monday, June 4 at The Outer Banks Hospital after a valiant battle with cancer. He was 70 years old. His last days were spent surrounded by loving family and friends.

Hugh was born May 21, 1942 in Blairsville, Pa. He graduated from Blairsville High School where he played basketball. He later attended Indiana University of Pennsylvania, graduating with a bachelor’s degree in Business.

Hugh was a patriot. He volunteered to serve in Vietnam, was a Navy corpsman attached to the 1st Marine Division HQ from 1961 to 1967, and received a Purple Heart. He later rejoined the military as a warrant officer with thePennsylvania National Guard, a job he performed for many years.

Hugh loved the outdoors, and retired on the Outer Banks of North Carolina. He became an active member of the Colington community – known for his selflessness, warmth and sense of humor. He was always there to lend a helping hand, whether it be he volunteering with the fire department, cutting someone’s lawn, or working with his beloved Boy Scouts.

Friends will be received at the Gallop Funeral Home Wednesday June 6 from 6 to 8 pm. A Funeral Mass will be held at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church Thursday June 7 at 11:00 am. On Monday June 11 at 12pm a service will be held at Trinity United Methodist Church, 98 Fisher Avenue, Jonestown Pa 17038. Hugh will then be laid to rest at Fort Indiantown Gap National Cemetery in Harrisburg, Pa at 1 pm with full military honors.

Hugh is survived by his wife, Mary Anne Lutton, his mother Beatrice Lutton of Blairsville, Pa, sons Michael Lutton, Jeff Lutton of McLean, Va, Jon Lutton of Baltimore, Md, daughter Kathleen Wiethop of Huntsville, Al, a sister Sharon Dallara of Alum Bank, Pa, a brother Tim Lutton of Blairsville, Pa and 10 grandchildren.

Hugh is preceded in death by his birth mother Edith Lutton, his father Hugh Lutton, and sisters Mary Anne of Blairsville, Pa and Linda Takach of Indiana, Pa.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Boy Scouts Troop 116 in the care of Outer Banks Presbyterian Church, 907 S. Croatan Hwy, Kill Devil Hills NC 27948.  Gallop Funeral Services, Inc. was entrusted with local arrangements.
