H. Dewey Spencer, Jr.
Southern Shores- H. Dewey Spencer, Jr., of Southern Shores passed away on July 4, 2012 at the age of 64. Born in Portsmouth, VA on January 28, 1948, he was the son of the late Herbert and Gladys Spencer and the brother of three sisters. During his career, he served in the US Navy during the Vietnam War and also served with the Merchant Marines. He was employed as Port Engineer for SeaLand and World Crane Services from which he retired from in 2002. Dewey loved his family and friends. He enjoyed spending time walking on the beach and cooking on the grill. He was a devoted husband and loving father.
Dewey is survived by his wife of 37 years, JoAnn Spencer; their three children: Starr Spencer Binner of Elizabeth City, NC, married to Travis Binner; Kristin Spencer Fellenstein of Richmond, VA, married to Keith Fellenstein; and Joseph Dewey Spencer of Southern Shores, NC; his two grandchildren, Hailee Kathryn Binner and Kathryn Ann Fellenstein; his sisters, Emily Howington of Camden, NC, married to Roger Howington; Belinda Spencer of Camden, NC married to Steve Spencer; and Donna McElroy of Longview, TX married to Mark McElroy; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held on Monday, July 9th at 9:00 A.M. at All Saints Episcopal Church in Southern Shores. The funeral service will begin following visitation at 10:00 A.M. at the church. Father Tom Wilson will be the celebrant. Burial with military honors at Southern Shores Cemetery will follow the funeral. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts in Dewey�s honor may be made to the American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 11454, Alexandria, VA 22312.
