Gwendolyn Britt Buckner
Nags Head- Gwendolyn Britt Buckner passed away March 27, 2009, surrounded by her family at Britthaven Nursing Center. She was eighty.
A memorial service is scheduled for one o’clock on Sunday March 29, 2009 at Gallop Funeral Services Chapel in Nags Head, NC. The Reverend Trip Lowery will officiate.
Mrs. Buckner was born April 28, 1928 in Halifax County to the late Benjamin Franklin Britt, Sr. and Nannie Alice Gossett Britt. She graduated from Roanoke Rapids, NC and later married and enjoyed life as a homemaker. She also enjoyed bird watching and once made a pet of a squirrel who learned to eat peanut butter crackers from her hand. She was a member of Roanoke Baptist Church.
Mrs. Buckner is survived by her sons and daughters; Ron Buckner and wife Kathy of Reading, MA,; Jeff Buckner and wife Debbie of Statesville, NC; Doug Buckner and wife Kim of Emporia, VA; daughters Jennifer Simpson and husband Scott of Aydlett, NC; and Kristie Montague and husband Bill of Goldsboro, NC. She was also blessed with seven grandchildren and one great granddaughter; Susan B.Paxton and husband Ben of Henrico, NC; Adam Montague of Goldsboro, NC; Sarah Montague Dixon and husband Matthew of Goldsboro, NC,; Scotty Simpson of Aydlett, NC; and Samantha Simpson of Wilmington, NC, Dougie and Jessica Buckner of Pinetops, NC, and Taylor Elizabeth Dixon of Goldsboro, NC as well as many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by one sister Rachel Britt Ellis and husband AP of Roanoke Rapids, NC. She is preceded in death by her parents; two sisters Geraldine Baird of Gasburg, VA; Margaret B. Taylor of Goldsboro, NC; and one brother Benjamin F. Britt, Jr., of Roanoke Rapids, NC and her husband James D. Buckner, Sr.
