George J. Kowal, Jr.

George Joseph Kowal, Jr. Passed away Friday, September 8, 2023. George was born in Long Island, New York, and moved to Nags Head approximately 30 years ago. He was a floor installer by trade and worked part time for Food Lion in his adult years. He loved fishing, but most importantly NASCAR. George was able to go to Talladega with the love of his life last September to watch the race and tour the pits. It was the trip of a lifetime for him. George was preceded in death by his father, George Joseph Kowal, Sr., his mother, Dolores Ann Lee, stepfather Charles Lavoy Lee, sister Robyn Kowal and stepbrother Danny Lee.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife for 35 years Debra Lynn Kowal, brother Gregory J. Kowal, sisters Raylene Pollard (Walt), Danielle Perez (John), Gwen Johnson, Karyn Waterfield (David, Sr.), Charlene Bowman (Patrick), nephews Christian Pollard, Bobby Treece, David Waterfield, Jr., Tyler Bowman, Micheal Bowman, and Joshua Bowman, nieces, Leana Perez, Stasha Waterfield and a host of extended family and friends.

A funeral service will be held at the Holy Redeemer by the Sea on Saturday, September 16, 2023 at 11:00 am

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society in George’s name. The family wishes to extend its sincere gratitude to Paula and Kirk as well as the doctors and staff at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital.
