George Edward Evans

George Edward Evans, 73, passed away of natural causes July 21, 2026 in Wilmington, NC. George was born in Portsmouth, VA the son of George and Juanita Evans (both deceased) and the brother of the late Dan Evans.

George was a native son of the city of Portsmouth, VA where her worked for several years following high school. Eventually, George joined his father in operating the family business- Evans Electric. In short order, George rose to Vice-President of Sales consistently exceeding the company’s sales goals. He remained in this role until his retirement from the company in 2006.

It wasn’t long before the family gave in to the call of the Outer Banks where they had vacationed since the seventies. George, Toni, and Daniel moved to the Outer Banks and settled in Grandy, NC. He relished the Outer Banks lifestyle and lived it well. More recently, due to some health challenges and a desire to be closer to his son Daniel, Toni and George relocated to Wilmington, NC where he remained until his passing.

George is survived by his wife of over 30 years, Toni Evans of the Wilmington home, his son George Daniel Evans also of Wilmington; one sister Teresa Anderson of Suffolk, VA; his sister-in-law Susan Evans of Portsmouth, VA; six nieces and nephews, Danny Evans, Amanda Fields, Nicholas Evans, Dusty Anderson, Brittani Anderson, Geoffrey Anderson; one great-nephew, Gunner Anderson; and a host of extended family members, dear friends, neighbors, and former clients.

The family has honored George’s preference for cremation. His memorial service will be held Sunday August 2, 2026 at 2 pm at Gallop Memorial Chapel in Barco, NC. Stephen Hawks will officiate. Interment will be private at a future date.
