Fred Kelly Chamberlain, Jr.

Kitty Hawk, NC – Fred Kelly Chamberlain, Jr.  passed away May 21, 2011 at Outer Banks Hospital, in Nags Head, NC.  Kelly was born in Colorado Springs, Colorado. He was the son of the late F. Kelly Chamberlain, Sr. and Florence Cragen, and the brother of the late Finis Chamberlain.

Kelly was raised in both Colorado and Texas. In 1948 Kelly enlisted in the Marine Corps and served 4 years with 7 months served in the Korean conflict. He was awarded a meritorious Sergeant rating in the field and was also awarded the Good Conduct Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Service Medal with one bronze battle star, the United Nations Service Medal, and the Korea War Service Medal.

Kelly earned an MBA and a Master of Finance from Loyola College, Baltimore, MD and was a member of Alpha Sigma Nu (Jesuit Honor Society). He was a certified cost estimator/analyst and worked primarily in the aerospace industry and in the U.S. Government.  He was an Adjunct Professor of the University of Phoenix teaching for nineteen years.

Kelly was a past-president of the California chapter of the Society of Cost Estimating and Analysis (SCEA) and published several articles in scholarly journals and other publications.  He was a Commandant (2nd) of the Marine Corps League, Outer Banks Detachment, #1264 from January 2009 to January 2011.

Kelly is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Judith Ann Chamberlain, two daughters, Ruth Anne Parish and Linda Louise Hoyt and her husband Brad, his granddaughter Erica Christine Hastings and husband Timothy, two great-grandchildren Andrew and Luke, and a host of extended family members and dear friends.

The funeral, with military honors, will be held graveside at Austin Cemetery in Kitty Hawk Thursday May 26, 2011 at 11 am. The Reverend Robert Pitsch will officiate.
