Franklyn Henry Klahre

Southern Shores- Franklyn Henry Klahre, 79, died Saturday, November 24, 2012 at his home in Southern Shores, NC. The son of Henry Anton and Marion Renner Klahre, Frank was born September 7, 1933 in West Englewood, NJ.

In his early years, he attended Teaneck High School where he was an avid tennis player. Frank continued his education at Bucknell University, serving as the President of Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity and graduating with a degree in Finance Economics in 1955. He then served as a Lieutenant in the U.S. Army for 6 years. His interest in competitive tennis continued through college and the military.
The family moved to Timonium and then Kensington, Maryland where he served as Treasurer of Trinity Lutheran Church for 14 years. Frank met his wife, Nancy Barnes, while at Bucknell University and they were married December 18, 1955 in Paterson, NJ. They would have celebrated 57 years of marriage this year.

Frank retired in 1993 as the Principle Owner of DeSibour & Associates Insurance Agency in Bethesda, MD. He enjoyed his last 19 years in Southern Shores, NC, with his wife and dogs.

In his retirement, Frank served as Treasurer at Duck United Methodist Church for 13 years, and was an active member of Southern Shores Civic Association and the Southern Shores Boat Club. He continued his passion for antique Oldsmobiles, boating, and traveling around the world learning about history and nature. He was an avid fan of the Orioles and the previous Baltimore Colts.

Frank is predeceased by his son, Russell Frank Klahre. He is survived by his wife, Nancy Barnes Klahre, Russ’s wife, Susan Garrott, their daughter, Jennifer; his daughter, Karen Klahre Munzer, her husband Stephen, and their sons, Stephen and Danny; his son, Donald Charles Klahre, his wife Susan, and their three children, Branden, Brian and Krista, along with his great grand-daughter, Delaney; his son, Douglas John Klahre, his wife Claudia, and their two children, Melissa and Derek.

A Memorial Service will be held at Duck United Methodist Church on Thursday, December 20, 2012 at 2pm. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in memory of Frank to one of the following:
