Elwood Russell Hudgins

March 26, 2008

Kill Devil Hills- Elwood Russell Hudgins or “Boo” as family and friends knew him, went to be with the Lord Wednesday March 26, 2008 after a brave battle with illness.  He was 58 years old.  Boo was the son of Elwood Hugh Hudgins and Ida Mae Hudgins.  He was born April 28, 1949 in Portsmouth, Virginia.

Boo resided in Kill Devil Hills since 1985. Prior to this, he served his country in the United States Army as a cook.  A hard worker, Boo painted professionally for many years on the Outer Banks. He eventually operated his own painting business, Resort Painting By Elwood for some 28 years. Over the past several years he worked as the caretaker for Ocean View Baptist Church in Kill Devil Hills even as his health declined. In his spare time, Boo enjoyed fishing.  He took great pleasure in cooking wonderful meals for his friends and family.

Left to cherish Boo’s memory is his loving mother Ida Mae Hudgins of the Kill Devil Hills residence, his son Gary Hudgins and wife Jennifer of Portsmouth, two sisters, Jane Haywood and husband George of Suffolk, and Sue Ellen Scarborough and husband Clay of  Powells Point, North Carolina one brother, Edward J. Martin and wife Betty of Portsmouth, one grandson Cooper Hudgins, his Ocean View church family,  and a host of dear friends.

The family is holding a celebration of Boo’s life Sunday March 30, 2008 at 3 O’clock in the afternoon at Ocean View Baptist Church.  Pastor Steve Siegrist will officiate.  A reception will follow in the Ocean View fellowship hall.  In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial donations in Boo’s honor be forwarded to the Outer Banks Cancer Support Group, Inc. at 245 N.
