Elizabeth Cox Barker

Elizabeth Cox Barker, of Wanchese died Monday November 20, 2006 in Nags Head. She was 80 years old.  “Betty Jo” as she was known to family and friends was born August 21, 1926 in Valparaiso, Indiana. She was the daughter of the late Cyrus L. Cox and Estelle Morris Cox and the wife of the late Wilfred Barker.

Besides her parents and husband, Betty Jo Barker was preceded in death by her sisters Marianna Sweeny, Margot Froats, Katherine Flynn, and Jean Detweiler, and one brother Irvin Cox.

Left to cherish the memory of Betty Jo Barker are; her daughter Joanne McCook of Wanchese, North Carolina, three step-daughters, Gilda (Donald) Heller of New York, Loretta (Allen) Sheridan of Ohio, and Joan (Roger) Wheeler of South Carolina, Also surviving are her five grandchildren; Melissa McCook and Amanda McCook both of Wanchese, Jackie (Ken) Dasen of South Carolina, Shawn (Rich) Amato and Kelly DeStephano all of New York and three great-grandchildren Rori DeStephano, Michael Amato, and Josephine Amato of New York.
